Descendants of Jacob Calvert and Mary "Polly" Shepherd
The Ancestry of Jacob: We know he came from Mifflin Co and his father was
John Calvert of MIfflin Co b bef 1743. It is likely that John is
the John Calvert who married the widow of Joseph Mercer, Jane Swayne.
We know that Jane's sons are taken in by John Calvert Guardian and that
Amos, a son of Joseph, lived in Mifflin/Centre Co PA and migrated to the
West at the same time as John Calvert, b 1766 who married
2nd, Esther "Hetty" Jones. I believe personally this should be Hesther
or Hester but I have not found any thing to verify this. Hester has
a nickname Hetty that I don't think is also used for Est(h)er. At
any rate, this line is built through and shows William Shepherd
Calvert and issue. It does not follow all of the family lines.
If we add descriptors for this research it must address the family lines
of Isaac Calvert as the DNA matches between Jacob Calvert's descendants
and those of Isaac Calvert. This is clearly indicative that the families
descend from Common ancestry and the research is showing that John of
Mifflin and Isaac of Greene County are probably brothers and sons of
Thomas Calvert who married Sarah Williams.
Further information about recent discoveries is contained in an article
of that name at this site with descendants of WIlliam Shepherd Calvert
who now reside in Missouri, but who did not know his ancestry beyond
his own gr. grandfather.

"The following letter was written to Clarence S. Calvert at Stop 8 in St. Joseph, Missouri in the early 1900s after he had written to Rachel Mary Calvert Vaughn at Rea, Missouri
She was born in 1839.
She answered as follows:
William S. Calvert, my father, was born February 28, 1808. He died
January 31, 1883. His children were James Clark Calvert, Maraget Ann,
Rachel Mary, and Joseph C. Calvert. They are all dead but myself and
Joseph, who lives in Reyburn, Idaho.
I have often heard my father (William S. Calvert) tell of his uncles
being in the Army at the Battle of Brandy Wine (This battle was on
September 11, 1777 during the Revolutionary War.), and the water
flowed with the blood.
Their names were Issac and I think William. My grandfather's name was
Jacob Calvert.
I am not sure what was my Great Grandfather's name. I have forgot.
They could trace their ancestry back to George and Cecil (Lord
Baltimore) Calvert. I cannot remember much about my Great Grandfather's
family, they lived in England. My great grandfather lost his family
records, had his house burned and it was destroyed--so dates and
names are hard to pick up and remember."

Charles Maple states further:
"William Shepard Calvert was born February 28, 1808, and died January
31, 1883. He was a farmer in Ohio, and moved to west of Savannah, MO.,
in Andrew County and became a sharp tools blacksmith, making knives
and sharp tools.
He married three times. His first wife was Mary Gordon, with whom they
had four children:
James Clark (b. Janaury 31, 1835. Killed at Vicksburg.)
Margaret Ann (b. February 26, 1837, m. Charles Vaughn)
and Joseph C. (b. March 23, 1841, m. Maggie Gosmer)
Mary Gordon Calvert died and William married Lucy Hopkins,
To them a son, Stewart Hopkins Calvert, was born November 23, 1844.
He was my G Grandfather. Lucy died and Amanda Hopkins, Lucy's sister,
came to care for the children. She and William later married, but had
not children of their own."
