(Transcribed by William Colvert)

In the name of God Amen! I Asa Calvert of the county of Marion in the state of Missouri, being of sound mind, and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament. First, I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Calvert all my property of every kid and description, both real and personal possessed and enjoyed by her during her natural life. Second, at and after the death of my said wife Sarah, I will and bequeath to my children, all the property and effects, both real personal and mixed that remains at her death, in manner following, to wit, to my daughter Margaret L. Bragg, and the heirs of her body, and to Sarah H. Cobbs, Washington L. Calvert, John R. Calvert, Catherine A. Hayden, and my grand daughter, Lucy E. Feagan, to them and their heirs forever, to be equally distributed between my said children and grand daughter, and in the event of my said grand daughter dying without issue, then in that case, the property hereby bequeathed to her shall be
equally divided among my remaining heirs. Third, I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Lucy E. Feagan in addition to the foregoing to her, a certain negro man named Sanford, which I placed in her fathers possession many years ago, for her use and benefit, and after my death to be held by her guardian for her use until she marries or becomes of age applying the proceeds of the heir of said slave to her education. Fourth, it is my wish and I hereby direct that my Executor, herein after married, shall have my slaves and personal estate appraised, and my slaves divided amongst my six heirs above named at their appraised value. After the death of my wife, the division to be made by mutual consent of the said heirs, the guardian of the said Lucy E. Feagan, acting for her, if she shall not be of age at the time, and in case said heirs can not agree they shall each draw for their share, the slaves to be made equal in valuation by the sale of any other property or effects, which
sale and division I order to be made as soon after the death of my said wife as can conveniently be done. Fifth, I hereby constitute and appoint son Washington L. Calvert executor of this my last will and testament, who after paying my just debts will execute the provisions of this will. I hereby revoke all former wills and testaments by me made in testimony where I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 30th day of July 1859.
